What Wants to Be Noticed

Most of my tea rituals begin the same way.

Not with the tea.

With the pause.

The kettle begins to warm.

The water starts to whisper.

And for a few moments, there is nothing else to do.

No messages to answer.

No dishes to wash.

No problems to solve.

Just the simple act of waiting.

I've come to believe that much of what we call intuition arrives in these small spaces.

Not when we're searching for answers.

Not when we're trying to figure everything out.

But when we're finally quiet enough to notice what has been standing patiently at the edge of our attention all along.

A worry.

A dream.

A feeling we've been too busy to acknowledge.

A truth we've been moving past too quickly.

Tea doesn't create these things.

It simply slows us down enough to see them.

Some days the answer is obvious.

Some days nothing comes at all.

Both are perfectly fine.

The ritual isn't about finding an answer.

It's about creating a moment to listen.

The Ritual

Prepare a cup of tea slowly.

As the tea steeps, place both hands around your mug and take three slow breaths.

Ask yourself:

What have I been moving past too quickly?

Do not force an answer.

Simply sit with the question.

When the tea is ready, stir clockwise three times and say:

I invite calm.

I invite clarity.

I invite what is true.

Take the first few sips in silence.

Notice what rises.

Notice what softens.

Notice what wants to be noticed.
