Summary

Chief Security Officer Cooper initiated a routine inspection of an unidentified armored visitor observed entering Society grounds.

The visitor demonstrated no interest in security procedures.

Incident Report

The afternoon had been unusually peaceful.

The birds were occupied.

Huebert was attending to sprinkler district matters.

Chairman Mortimer was enjoying a quiet moment beneath the lemon tree.

It was, by all accounts, an uneventful day.

Then Chief Security Officer Cooper noticed movement.

The visitor emerged slowly from the garden.

Low to the ground.

Heavily armored.

Completely unconcerned.

Chief Security Officer Cooper immediately responded.

Professional protocol required a thorough investigation.

He approached carefully.

Very carefully.

The visitor continued walking.

Chief Security Officer Cooper matched the visitor's pace.

Maintaining what he later described as "an appropriate tactical distance."

When the visitor paused...

Chief Security Officer Cooper paused.

When the visitor took another step...

Chief Security Officer Cooper reconsidered several life choices before taking one cautious step of his own.

Huebert observed the exchange from a respectful distance.

"What's he doing?"

"His job."

"Looks like he's afraid."

"Professional caution."

The inspection continued for several minutes.

Chief Security Officer Cooper successfully gathered valuable intelligence, including:

The visitor possessed four legs.

An impressive shell.

No obvious interest in tennis balls.

At one point, the visitor looked directly at Chief Security Officer Cooper.

Chief Security Officer Cooper immediately looked somewhere else.

Purely as a tactical decision.

Eventually Chairman Mortimer approached.

"There appears to be no cause for alarm."

Chief Security Officer Cooper remained unconvinced.

"Has anyone identified the visitor?"

Huebert nodded.

"Tortoise."

"A dangerous tortoise?"

"...just... tortoise."

The visitor resumed a leisurely walk across Society property.

Chief Security Officer Cooper followed at a safe distance to ensure the visitor departed peacefully.

The visitor appeared entirely unaware that an escort had been assigned.

Official Findings

The unidentified visitor has been formally recognized as a welcome guest of the Society.

Chief Security Officer Cooper performed his duties with exceptional diligence.

Chairman Mortimer has reminded all members that courage is not the absence of caution.

Sometimes courage simply means investigating the very suspicious rock that suddenly started walking.

Signed,

Mortimer the Magnificent, Esquire

Chief Amphibian Affairs Officer
